Not Sure Why Everyone Hates This Thing??? December 30, 2009 Kelly M. Mcclellan (Fishers, IN United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have had nothing but positive experiences with this printer that came with our Dell computer. Except for the amount of ink it appears to go through, we have used this for everything from pictures (printing and pulling from our memory card), scanning (turning into .jpg AND .pdf), envelopes (2 years of XMAS cards!), and tons of general print jobs (both color and bw). It is quieter than any other home printer we have owned and has been stable on our furniture as well. I was actually looking to buy one for my Mom when I saw all of this negative feedback. I don't get it - we've been very happy. Either the key is that we got ours directly from Dell or we should just count our blessings! The only reason I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is because it really does go through the ink. However, these things are programed to warn you waaaay in advance, so we don't change out the cartridges until the ink stops coming out during print jobs. Honestly, we have been seeing the warning on our current cartridge for 2 months now and we made it through XMAS card season; printing 87 envelopes. I'm still using that cartridge as I type this.
Avoid Dell if you think you'll ever need customer service August 24, 2009 CintiBonnie (Cincinnati, Ohio United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have a Dell All-in-One (same concept, different model) that I now have to throw away because I misplaced the original disk with drivers/software. I needed to re-install it, could not find the disk, and upon calling Dell was advised that I would have to pay close to $50 for any assistance, even just another copy of the disk, since the item was "out of warranty". Everything needed is not available for download online. Given the inordinate number of hours already wasted, the frustration encountered, the lack of any cooperation from Dell, and the low prices on new equipment, I finally concluded that it makes more sense to buy a new All-in-One from a different company than to sink more money into a business that clearly does not value me as a customer. However, if future customer service is not the deciding factor for you, other points to consider: (1) the actual equipment seems to have held up well over the past 3 years with no mechanical problems during average use, and (2) the Dell ink cartridges are very expensive but arrive very quickly after ordering. Overall, I do not recommend the Dell brand in any model.
Uses way too much ink and spradically doesn't scan January 2, 2010 Mary Chrapliwy (NJ, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wish I saw the reviews for this printer before we purchased it. We purchased this printer about a year ago to be compatible with our wireless network. It does one thing right - the print quality of your pages is exceptionally good. However, with that exceptionally good printing comes a huge negative - the printer is a high ink user - uses a massive amount of ink quickly. The print cartidges are not cheap, so you find yourself going through a lot of money - so not only does it drain your ink fast, it also drains your wallet. To top it off, the scanner part of this printer works on and off, so you can't rely on it to scan anything. Will be ditching this printer soon and upgrading to something that works in both scanning and printing without emptying my wallet.
Expensive to Run - Better out there! February 27, 2010 Glenn C. Catania Sr. (Connecticut) Received this printer as part of a package on a XPS Notebook. Printer does a nice job but eats up cartridges (very expensive) like water. Stay clear. Buy a HP because Dell blew it with this one. I would never buy another Dell printer.
Nice Printer but a Glutton for Ink October 27, 2009 goodwir (baton rouge) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I do not print very often. (Thank god!) [...]. I suggest that potential buyers consider purchase price plus ink replacement cost to determine the true cost of a printer. The print function is good, the scanner is very good. I have not used the fax.
